On 11 March 2023, SANE gathered our members and supporters for a lunch meeting to discuss our ongoing work and set our course for the year ahead. Among these discussions was an exploration of the lasting potential of a People’s Plan for Glasgow, as a common network and platform for grassroots organisations in Glasgow to work together, educate ourselves and stand shoulder to shoulder to face the assault on our local democracy. We concluded this conversation by asking each of our attendees to provide a one line response to the question of what a People’s Plan can achieve. The following poem has been co-created from our responses.
Plain Text:
A people’s plan will empower us to create an organism for positive transformation
A people’s plan will embolden us to challenge the power of the City Council.
A people’s plan for Glasgow will animate us to participate in a much improved system that can stimulate and co-create a Glasgow for the people
A people’s plan will drive us towards a more humane and equitable society
A people’s plan will authorise us to imagine a pedagogy of hope, and a train for transformation
A people’s plan will inspire us locally to know that change is possible, and to know how to achieve it
A people’s plan will facilitate us to realise a working vision for a fairer, greener, thriving Glasgow
A people’s plan will enable us to identify skills and knowledge, utilise those elements and bind them together to provide a collective focus.
A people’s plan will deliver us a system that is built to last, based on principles of transparency and empowerment
A people’s plan will fuel us to move towards democratic confederalism
A people’s plan will provide us with hope, power and the opportunity to make transformative change real.
